2010 Double Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon

Each vintage we at Double Eagle typically make merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc and blend at least two of these to make our Double Eagle red wine. We often have a little of one, or possibly two, of the components remaining that we sell to other wineries in bulk. In 2010 we loved the cabernet sauvignon component, but it dominated the blend if we used it all, so we had a bit remaining. We just couldn’t bring ourselves to sell it off, so we decided to bottle it even though it was only a paltry 47 cases.

2010 was the third consecutive cool vintage and yet it was remarkably even in ripening, producing wines of great depth.

This inaugural release of Double Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon is deep in purple/crimson color with beautifully seductive aromas of blackberries, cedar, grilled herbs and licorice. The palate is succulent, ripe and full with just enough tannin to carry the abundant ripe fruit. Flavors of chocolate, cedar, fennel, espresso and red fruit follow the seductive nose. This is a wine that is full of flavor and rich without the accompanying bite of astringency. Great to drink now and will age nicely for years to come.
