2010 Double Eagle Red Wine

Double Eagle combines two passions of David Grieve and Vance Rose; it is the rarest of golf shots and is the fourth release of 470 cases of our evocative Bordeaux blend. We have produced up to these three Bordeaux varietals since our initial vintage in 2006 and have blended the best barrels of each varietal together to make our minimal quantities of Double Eagle. The cabernet sauvignon contributes strength, tannin and cedar, the merlot contributes the lovely plum and the cabernet franc brings violets.

2010 was the third consecutive cool vintage with a late spring and maddeningly slow ripening that was augmented with a few bursts of heat. The vineyard yields were quite small as was the cluster weight and berry size due to the coolness, with our estate merlot giving us only .54 tons per acre. We hand sorted in the vineyard, again at the winery and the wine was de-stemmed and then sorted again for the third time.

The wine is deep in color with aromas and layers of flavors of sweet cedar, caramelized anise, cassis, sweet cocoa, sage and green olive. The wine bursts with fruit and stays firm in structure but generous in mouth-feel make the wine drinkable now, but will develop and improve for a number of years to come.
